Attain Mastery

Improve your recitation of the Qur'an by gaining mastery of the pronunciation and reading of the Arabic letters. This course includes mastery of the knowledge and application of the rules of tajweed.

Topics covered include:

  • introduction to the science of tajweed

  • dhabt al-Qur'an (signs/symbols in the Qur'an)

  • makharij al-huroof (pronunciation of letters)

  • sifaat al-huroof (characteristics of letters)

  • tafkheem w'al tarqeeq (thickening and thinning)

Course Structure

Description: A three-month-long course to attain the knowledge and application of the rules of tajweed while reading the entire Qur’an.

Objectives

    • Knowledge of tajweed rules: Recognition of letters, pronunciation of letters, characteristics of letters, signs/symbols in Qur’an, introduction to rules of tajweed

    • Applying tajweed rules while reading

Prerequisites: Men and women who have knowledge of the Arabic letters and can read at an introductory level.

Timings: Instructors of the American Qur'an Institute explain all concepts of tajweed online. The course will begin March 8th, 2021 and will be on every Monday from 7:30-9:00 pm until July 12, 2021. The course will run for three months and will be held via Zoom. For practical sessions, students work with instructors online via Zoom after lectures.

Cost: $25 per month per student. This covers the cost of any technical expenses, awards for students, and graduation ceremonies for students.

Expectations:

      • Minimum attendance requirement is 75% of lectures and practice sessions for each course.

      • Pass end of course assessments for the course. Minimum passing score is 80%.

Resources: Lectures will be recorded with both audio and video options. Handouts will be given during the course which demonstrate the rules of tajweed.

This is an English text used by the American Qur'an Institute for students mastering Tajweed written by Ustadha Kareema Czerepinski a student of Shaykh Ayman Swayd. Correct understanding and application of the content within this book is necessary to attain ijaazah in a recitation. Please support her and purchase the books!

Certification

Required steps to achieve Tajweed Certificate (ijaazah) from the American Quran Institute:

      • Attend all three levels of Tajweed courses. Minimum attendance requirement is 75% of lectures and practice sessions for each course.

      • Pass end of course assessments for each Tajweed course. Minimum passing score is 80%.

      • After completing the three courses, students are evaluated by the certifying committee to assess readiness for recitation of the whole Quran to a certified teacher.

      • Recite the whole Quran to a certified teacher.

      • Pass practical and theoretical final exams.
