Sheikh Khalid al-Abisi, also known as Abu Salman, is a scholar from Syria and is specialized in reading and teaching the Qur'an in the ten Qira'at (styles of reading the Qur'an). He has authorized over 130 students with ijazah here in Toledo, Ohio and is the founder and leader of the American Qur'an Institute.

Sheikh Abu Salman was born in Hama, Syria, on February 12, 1943, and grew up in a house that valued Islamic scholarship and furthered his learning in the circles of Qur'anic Sciences. He studied in the schools of Hama until high school, and then attended college and focused on sharia in the sixties. He then worked as a teacher in Hama and its countryside. Moving to the UAE, he taught and advised the teachers of Qur’an. He was one of the founders of the Zayed Memorization Project from 1973 to 1985. He then moved to Amman, Jordan in the early 1990s. Alhamdulillah, he has spent over 10 years teaching different Qira’at and Qur’an memorization in Toledo, Ohio.
